Things to Do with Your Kids this Summer-Free and Simple!

There are two kinds of summer moms:

Those who send their kids to day camp and continue their voyage of sanity during the summer months.

Those who pretend that they just love being with their kids all summer while in public, but are secretly counting the days until school begins again.  They start out loving the fact that their kids are home all day or part of the day, but that wears off sometime around week four when the kids get bored.

I have written a series of article on Infobarrel.com about low cost and free activities for your kids this summer.

In sum, I have written about where to find free and low cost movies, free bowling, free museums, free arts and crafts classes, free storytimes and a few other activities.

On the side of the article are other articles I have written about summer fun.

My children will all be attending a Jewish day camp this summer.  My fifteen year old is working there all summer, my twins will have their first adventure there for six weeks.  Since my fifteen year old is in the same division, she will be able to keep an eye out on them, as well as her friends, who also work there.

All of my kids have stayed home with me, attending part-time camp each summer, until they were seven.  I even worked in my twins' camp for a few years to get a discount.  Nowadays, I work on the weekend to give them the gift of camp, a place where they can immeresed in a Jewish environment with (mostly) other Jewish kids, something that is very important to me.

I will still have over four weeks to have fun with my kids when they are at home. I am having surgery in July on my rotator cuff, and I intend to have a quick recovey.  Having things to do when they are at home while I am recovering will be a blessing for us all!

  1. We are realizing right now that our 16 year old has waaaaay too much time on his hands this summer! They do need to stay busy.

  2. My fifteen year old is working in summer camp. The bus takes her back and forth, so I do not have to drive her!

  3. I opted to have my daughter stay home this summer and not do summer camp at her preschool. I am glad I did - she was only doing a few short hours a week there anyway but I feel it is nice to have all week together and we are making the most of our time and the pool.

But I think next summer she will be ready for more activities.

  4. Summer break seemed so much longer as a kid. Now you realize how fast it is. At first summer is difficult for me getting schedules rearranged and figuring it all out. Once that is all done I dread september when it all ends. Seeing the kids get back on the bus is always so dreadful every year after they have been right here all that time.
